The following page addresses common questions we receive about the Ciceronian Society conference and about the society generally. If you think something else needs to be addressed here, please email info@ciceroniansociety.org
**Check back periodically for updates to this page
- Does the conference have a specific theme it focuses on?
- Not exactly. All our events are centered around our Christian commitments and our three themes: tradition, place, and “things divine.” Scholars and intellectuals interested in these themes are encouraged to attend our events, submit scholarly pieces to our journal, and be part of our larger community.
- Is this a society dedicated to the life and work of Marcus Tullius Cicero?
- No, but we enthusiastically endorse reading, studying, researching, and writing on Cicero.
- Click here for an explanation as to why we’re named after him
- Is there scheduled prayer time at the conference?
- Yes! You are invited to join us for an abridged Morning Prayer service according to the Anglican Book of Common Prayer (ACNA, 2019) [Location and Time, TBA]
- Can non-members or non-Christians attend the conference or submit papers to the journal?
- Yes! The conference and journal are open to all. Membership in the Ciceronian Society does require assent to the Nicene Creed, but you need not be a member or a Christian to propose papers, panels, manuscripts, etc.
- Is my registration fee tax-deductible?
- Registration fees for attending events, even when hosted by non-profit organizations, are not considered tax deductible. Donations to the Ciceronian Society are tax deductible. Click here to learn more.
- Does the Ciceronian Society answer to a particular Christian denomination?
- No. The Ciceronian Society is not exclusive to any specific Christian denomination. We tend toward what is often referred to as a “theological conservatism” or more a “traditional theological” embraced by Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christians of many denominations.

- If you are selected as a nominee for the William Batchelder Award then we will need to review a copy of your paper beforehand.
- I’ve never presented at a conference like this. Can you give me a little more information on what to expect? ‘
- A Ciceronian Society conference is meant to be a “low pressure” situation, so do not fret too much. However, it’s a good idea to read through our descriptions of conference session formats, and consider watching recordings from the 2023 conference at Belmont Abbey. The panel titled, “Community, Place, and the Post-Liberal Right” is a good example of a traditional academic panel. A number of panels from our 2025 conference have also appeared on our podcast.
- Where will the conference be held in 2027?
- We have not yet set a date or location. Subscribe to the newsletter for the most up-to-date information.
- If I have additional questions, who do I contact?
- We welcome your questions and can be reached by email (info@ciceroniansociety.org) or by phone at (734) 265-0149.
