The Ciceronian Society is thrilled to announce two competitive fellowships available for conference attendees. Interested individuals should read the information below very carefully and complete the application at the bottom:
Deadline: December 1
Notified by: December 15
These fellowships are for those sympathetic to our mission, but who may not have the means or the professional development funds to afford registration. For this reason, faculty members and others who have ready access to institutional funds or similar resources for professional development and conference attendance are strongly discouraged from applying for the Nisbet Fellowship.
The number of fellowships available will vary by event and membership in the Ciceronian Society (once available) is not required at this time.
Fellows are, however, required to attend the entirety of the conference.
The Nisbet Fellowship
The Nisbet fellowship is named after Robert Nisbet (1913-1996), who was a professor of sociology at Columbia University. He is the author of numerous books, but his seminal work, The Quest for Community, is especially relevant to the Ciceronian Society and its core themes. He especially represents the interdisciplinarity we value and the affection for tradition and place that characterizes our work.
Who is Eligible?
- Accepted conference panelists who are graduate students or non-tenured faculty (including adjuncts) at a college, university, or seminary.
- Recipients may be from any scholarly discipline
What will you receive?
- Recipients will receive free conference registration and an invitation to speak about their scholarly work on The Sower podcast. Recipients will also be recognized on our website.
- Please note that we are not able to offer financial assistance for lodging or transportation at this time.
The Clergy Fellowship
The Ciceronian Society is an organization of Christian scholars who take their faith seriously, and we view our churches as places we are called to serve. In order to explore what that service looks like and how we understand the role of scholars in the church, we want to engage more with those called to shepherd congregations themselves.
Who is Eligible?
- Ordained or appointed clergy currently assigned to any church in the Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox traditions.
- NOTE: The Ciceronian Society’s Statement of Faith is not currently on the website, but you are welcome to request a copy.
What will you receive?
- Recipients will receive free conference registration and may be invited to participate in The Sower podcast. Recipients will also be recognized on our website.
- Please note that we are not able to offer financial assistance for lodging or transportation at this time.
