  • Does the Spring conference have a specific theme it focuses on?
    • Not exactly. All our Spring Conferences are centered around our Christian commitments and our three themes: tradition, place, and “things divine.” Scholars and intellectuals interested in these themes are encouraged to attend our events, submit scholarly pieces to our journal, and be part of our larger community.
    • Typically, our Fall Symposium or smaller events like our upcoming Colloquium will be thematically narrower.
  • Is this a society dedicated to the life and work of Marcus Tullius Cicero?
    • No, but we enthusiastically endorse reading, studying, researching, and writing on Cicero.

  • Is there scheduled prayer time at the Spring conference?
    • Yes! You are invited to join us for an abridged Morning Prayer service according to the Anglican Book of Common Prayer (ACNA, 2019) [Location and Time, TBA]
  • Can non-members or non-Christians attend the conference or submit papers to the journal?
    • Yes! The conference and journal are open to all. Membership in the Ciceronian Society does require assent to the Nicene Creed, but you need not be a member or a Christian to propose papers, panels, manuscripts, etc.
  • Is my registration fee tax-deductible?
    • Registration fees for attending events, even when hosted by non-profit organizations, are not considered tax deductible. Donations to the Ciceronian Society are tax deductible. Click here to learn more.
  • Does the Ciceronian Society answer to a particular Christian denomination?
    • No. The Ciceronian Society is not exclusive to any specific Christian denomination. We tend toward what is often referred to as a “theological conservatism” or more a “traditional theology” embraced by Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christians of several denominations.
  • Is the Ciceronian Society a membership-based organization?
    • Yes! Membership is by invitation only, though current members may nominate others to join. More information available here.
  • Will WiFi be available? 
    • WiFi and login information will be provided at the event itself. 
  • Will the Spring conference be recorded? 
    • We hope to record several sessions of this conference, but we do not have details on this yet.
    • There is also the possibility recorded episodes of The Sower podcast
    • If you would NOT like to be recorded, please let us know.
  • Can I see a list of who is attending, including those not presenting?
    • Individuals who are registered for the Spring Conference will be sent a participant list prior to the conference. It will not be provided on the website. The conference program will be published online with names and presentation titles, but not email addresses.
    • At this time, we do not plan to provide an attendee list for the Fall Symposium
  • What should I wear?
    • Despite our very Roman name, togas are neither required nor encouraged. Most attendees for academic events dress in standard business attire for presenting and “business casual” for everything else.  
  • Are there opportunities for sponsors?
  • Will there be catered lunches or dinners?
    • For Fall 2026
      • Dinner on Thursday, Oct 22 and Lunch on Oct 23 will be catered and included with registration
    • For Spring 2027
      • The tentative plan is to cater all 3 lunches and Thursday’s dinner for the conference.
    • When registering, please let us know of any allergies or if you require vegan options
  • Will there be coffee and snacks available during panels?
    • Yes! At both the Fall Symposium and Spring Conference, regular and decaf coffee, water, and light refreshments will be provided
  • Can I bring my family?
    • It is a long-term goal of the Ciceronian Society to make its conference an event for the whole family, and we welcome attendees to bring family members of all ages. 
    • If you bring very young children to a panel, that’s fine, but please be mindful of disruptions.
    • At this time, we cannot offer childcare. 
  • Is any financial support available for those who want to attend but can’t afford to do so? 
    • At this time, we are unsure whether fellowships will be offered for the Spring 2027 Conference, but we are looking for partners to help make this happen! Check back periodically for updates.

  • Will there be a hospitality suite in the evenings?
    • Yes, for the Spring Conference. More details to follow
    • There are no formal, scheduled receptions for the Fall Symposium.

  • If I can’t attend, but want to financially support the Ciceronian Society, how do I do so?
    • We are grateful for the support of our friends and invite you to contribute to the Ciceronian Society. Click here for ways to give. 
  • If I’m a participant, do I need to attend the entirety of the conference?
    • We would prefer that you attend the entirety of the conference, but we do not require it. We understand that you have other professional and family obligations. Please note, however, that we do not offer pro-rated registration.
  • Will there be discussants this year?
    • No. We have decided to forego panel discussants in favor of more presentations and more time for audience participation.
    • If you propose a full panel for the Spring Conference, and want to include a selected discussant as part of that proposal, you may do so.
  • Is there a deadline for sending in drafts of conference papers?
    • No. Since we will not have discussants this time, you need only have the presentation ready by the time you present, though we certainly encourage you to complete your preparations well ahead of time and to ensure you can respect the time limits.
    • If you are selected as a nominee for the William Batchelder Award then we will need to review a copy of your paper beforehand.
  • I’ve never presented at a conference like this. Can you give me a little more information on what to expect? ‘
